Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Please call 215-638-5515 to speak with a member of our Engineering Sales Staff. We are more than willing to help you.

  • Maybe. Please refer to any of the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manuals on our website. You have to make sure there is enough fresh air in-take as well as adequate discharge space for the condenser exhaust to disperse so that hot discharge exhaust is not recirculated back through the condenser coil. This can and will create a high-pressure condition, causing the chiller to fault. Each condenser has a minimum CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating to dispel heat load along with fresh air intake. If this is not met, problems will arise. Typically, water-cooled chillers are installed indoors and larger air-cooled chillers are installed outdoors.

  • Our chillers are custom-manufactured for a specific operation or spec. Due to the custom nature of our equipment, a general operation maintenance manual is provided. Refrigeration and chiller experience is recommended. However, we can provide help for anyone no matter where your level of experience lies.

  • The year of manufacturing can be determined using the serial number of the chiller. Every serial number begins with the letter D followed by a 2-digit numeric. The letter stands for Drake and the 2-digit numeric represents the year of manufacturing.

For example: A serial number beginning with D22 would represent the year 2022 as the year of manufacturing. Models pre-2022 utilize another letter indicating the month of manufacturing. Ex. D21A represents a chiller manufactured in January of 2021. Starting in 2022 and beyond, the month of manufacturing is no longer indicated in the serial number.

If needed, a call to Customer Service can help you with more information.

  • The charge on your equipment can be found on the Equipment Data Tag. Prior to 2015, there was only one Data Tag provided and it may be faded. Since then, we have included a second Data Tag in the electric panel on the back of the door. Starting in 2022, we added an embossed stamp in the electric panel box with the serial number as well.

If the data tag is not readable on your piece of equipment, please call Customer Service at 215-638-5515 and we can help you. The serial number will be needed or other means of determining the equipment will be required (such as compressor model number, etc.).

  • This can also be found on the Equipment Data Tags. If your tags are faded and not legible, please call Customer Service for support at 215-638-5515.

  • Drake has spec sheets for the complete product line. There are exceptions with regards to some very custom chillers. These can be developed and provided if needed.

  • Please refer to any Installation, Operation, or Maintenance Manual and refer to page 26.
